Farm Update

Harvest in Full Swing (what I was hoping to say)

With harvest preparations complete, we are eagerly anticipating the start of harvest. A cooler and wetter spring delayed the onset of ripening, but this provided an ideal environment for slow, even fruit development. The past four weeks have been a flurry of activity, from meticulous canopy management to ensure optimal sunlight exposure, to carefully monitoring ripeness levels, to receiving this year’s barrels – all payable in euro….

As veraison progresses, we are keeping an eagle eye on every weather app that we can find and are hoping for a benevolent Mother Nature.

By this time last year we had already harvested the Pinot Noir for our Cap Classique. It looks like we will harvest in Valentine’s week. Quite apt I suppose which leads me to introduce our Vintage Cap Classique bundle special.

Cheers,
Geoff

Calling all Trail Run Buffs

The Fynbos Trail (our neighbours) are launching a brand new way to experience the #FynbosTrail at an exciting pace!

Their new package offers a 28.5 km trail run through the pristine landscape of Walker Bay, spread out over three days (two days of running). The trail is self-guided and self-catering, but they take care of accommodation and transport of overnight bags, so you can focus on making the most of your immersive fynbos experience.
For now they’re only doing two of these trail runs per month, so book you spot now for their first trail run in February.

Conservation – Orphium Frutescens
(common name Sea Roses)

These perennial evergreen shrublets are native to the sandy flats and marshes of South Africa’s southwestern Cape coast and can currently be seen as pink mass displays on the banks of the Lomond Dam and the Hermanus lagoon.

Until next month – we always welcome your feedback, so please email us at office@lomond.co.za if you have any questions or queries.

Follow us on social media for news from the farm and exclusive loyalty offers @lomondwine or simply join the Lomond Cellar Club to take advantage of discounted pricing and learn about releases of our new vintages.

Look out for your next update in March.
