With less than 0.6% of South Africa’s total Syrah plantings found in the Cape Agulhas Appellation, 68 hectares out of 11,356, this is a special place for Syrah.

Lomond’s Syrahs are not just award-winning, they are born from one of the most unique terroirs in South Africa. Nestled at the southernmost tip of Africa, our Cape Agulhas vineyards are exposed to the unforgiving cool maritime winds from the nearby Atlantic Ocean. This ensures a slow and even ripening season. This cool-climate influence enhances the purity of fruit, natural acidity, and fine tannin structure that define our Syrah style.

Our single vineyard Syrahs, Conebush and Cat’s Tail, are named after the indigenous Fynbos species found on the farm, a tribute to the extraordinary biodiversity of the region. Lomond is proud to be a part of the Walker Bay Fynbos Conservancy, reflecting our deep commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

We’re proud to share that our Lomond Conebush Single Vineyard Syrah 2021 has just been awarded Gold and an outstanding 96 points at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), making it the highest scoring South African Syrah in the competition. This remarkable achievement adds to its already impressive track record, having earned a coveted Top 12 spot in the 2024 Shiraz SA Challenge.

And the good news doesn’t stop there. Two more of our Syrahs, the Lomond Estate Syrah 2022 and Lomond Cat’s Tail Single Vineyard Syrah 2022, have just been announced as finalists in the 2025 Shiraz SA Challenge.
