The release of a new vintage is the highlight for not only our Cellarmaster Anné and her team, but for the entire farm as it represents, literally, the fruits of our labour.
Climatically, the 2022 harvest was an excellent vintage, a cold 2021 winter led into a warm, dry summer. There was none of the early rains which we experienced in 2021 which made life rather interesting…
Each vineyard block is harvested, fermented and vinified separately to ensure that each wine retains the unique flavours and characteristics of that specific vineyard. The wine is then matured for 14 months in a combination of first, second and third fill French Oak barrels.
Our winemaking team then screens each barrel, only selecting the best, and then carefully blends the separate lots to craft a wine greater than the sum of the parts.
Then the debate begins! The samples are tasted against the best wines in the world, advice is given and taken, and the final blend is then assembled.
