Farm Update
May is Sauvignon blanc Month at Lomond
The 2025 harvest season has come to a close, and we’re delighted with the exceptional quality of this year’s grapes and wine.
Although it started later than expected, the harvest progressed smoothly, with all our Sauvignon blanc vineyards harvested within four weeks. Ideal weather and no major rain allowed for slow, optimal ripening, resulting in fruit of outstanding quality.
Meticulous sorting in both vineyard and cellar ensured only the finest grapes were used. Our Sauvignon blancs are now resting on fine lees to develop their signature complexity and vibrant character — a little patience, and they’ll be well worth the wait.
Celebrating
International Sauvignon blanc Day – 2 May
At Lomond Wine Estate, we’re dedicating the entire month of May to our standout varietal – Sauvignon blanc – in honour of International Sauvignon blanc Day on 2 May.
This is more than just a celebration of a grape; it’s a tribute to a wine that continues to shine both in the glass and on the global stage.
Award-Winning Excellence
An example is our Lomond Sugarbush Sauvignon blanc 2023 (now sold out) which was recently selected as one of the FNB Sauvignon blanc SA Top 10 winners. This award recognises South Africa’s best of the best, and it’s a powerful testament to the quality, consistency, and craftsmanship behind our wines. Be sure to try the 2024 vintage, which we think is just as delicious.
Our unique terroir in the Cape Agulhas region – marked by cool maritime breezes, ancient soils, and pristine natural surroundings – gives our Sauvignon blancs their vibrant acidity, beautiful minerality, and intense fruit purity.

Conservation – The Dragonfly

Our monthly conservation post covers the Dragonfly. A fascinating insect, the Dragonfly has beauty and acrobatic prowess. They are apex serial hunters as well as sensitive indicators of ecosystem health which makes them scientifically important as well as mesmerising. We see many dragonflies around our Lomond dam. Read our fascinating blog to learn more about these graceful insects.
